Default Yahoo Pulls Plug on Geocities

The news recently came out that Yahoo is pulling the plug on Geocities. What a shame! Geocities was a free web hosting service that allowed people to build websites on Geocities.

Here's a page on Yahoo that briefly explains what's happening. help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/geo...cities-05.html

Basically they're closing and are asking people to either use the Yahoo hosting services.

To bad they are closing. They must of gotten what they wanted out of that and find it no longer useful. Shame. All those sites going to disappear.

I used Geocities originally to share my computer desk design. Then someone here told me about Adsense and I switched to a hosted site with Adsense. That was about 2 years ago, and I put a link on the Geocities site to the new site. Last month I got 265 visits therough the Geocities site.
There are actually a lot of Geocities sites with a wealth of info on them.

I'm not really surprised to see this. Yahoo has really been going down the hill lately. I used to use GeoCities for things such as class projects and whatnot, but nothing serious.

When Google is unveiling new projects such as Chrome Based OS, Google Wave and lots more, Yahoo is doing just the opposite. Yahoo should compete to create a niche for itself rather than leaving the battle field in the middle.
