Right now I am slowly putting together a site for my newest venture using a free hosting package but will upgrade to a premium account soon with the same company. I think it is a good way to start while you are working with your presentation, but once you are ready to start submitting to search engines and are looking for good repeat traffic it's best to hae a premium package so that you are working under your own domain.

free hosting will never vanish, because theres always profit to be made by the provider. However, I always used godaddy to host the majority of my websites, they offer fantastic packages with no setup or yearly requirements with the deluxe package.

I would never do business with anyone using a free site. If they can't come up with 50 for hosting I do not trust them to hold up their end of a transaction, I mean really. That isn;t really a business at all.
Having a paid host is the very, very first thing any company that trades on line should do--followed by having their own domain. Free hosts are great for clubs and hobbies--pictures of your pets etc, not for business.
If someone was in business and some how totally broke, I would still say never have an obvious free page--use a blog.

Thats true I agree in some ways or another. I think it all depends on the person and how business savvy they are. If you are trying to do something as far as business wise is concerned you may want to start off with a free hosting site. But there are measures you would have to take, like backing up your site. Some people have idea what they are doing, so most of the time its best to practice.
