Cool 1and1.com

I apologize if someone's mentioned this already, but I like:

1&1 Internet Inc. - Web Hosting Services and Domain Name Registration

Now...they're cheap, and I have had very few problems with them. I have heard that other folks just HATE them, particularly people who buy and sell domain names.

The only real troubles I've had with them:

1. Their tech support has a lousy VOIP connection and few of them speak fluent English. It's better to communicate with them via email, but it takes them a long time to respond.

2. Their tech support, often, has no idea what they're talking about. (I know this is not unique - but simple issues like MXNAME...? Come on, now.)

3. A friend of mine registered a domain with them using my credit card. When he decided to drop the domain, he had to close the whole account...there was no may to strike the financial information.

Past that, I have many, many .coms registered at 1and1. They have 'em for $5.99 with free private reg. Renewal is easy and I have experienced almost no downtime on the ones with hosted sites.

Hope this helps a little.

Starting to use them is easy, stopping can be very hard. They also don;t offer anonymising on all domains. They are okay but average price rather than cheap and I have had problems with them from time to time. Like they made a mistaking processing my payment and so just shut me down without even an email to alert me to the problem.

But most hosts have a glitch or two like that over te years so I stick with them, they are okay.

I haven't heard of this website until recently actually. But now the name seems to be popping up more and more. Is it really popular?

Since I've only ever bought .coms, I didn't know they didn't offer anonymizing on all domains. I'll certainly remember that.

Lowco, several years ago 1and1 signed up a bazillion accounts by offering FREE hosting - for three years.

Everyone they did that with has just had their time limit expire and had to pay within the last 6 or 7 months. It was a 'trial' for their business package, which came with neat features at the time. For people like me, their generosity and helpfulness during that period is well-remembered - though they stink on some levels, I imagine they still get good word of mouth due to the initial offering.

Ah, I see. That's really interesting. My sites are hosted on my friends server, so I don't need to worry/care about other websites.

1&1 Internet Ltd.

.. they are officially blacklisted by all professional webmasters, mainly for the time it takes to transfer files, domains between users. There control panel lacks the superiority or ones such as Cpanel and there support is shocking.
I would never reccomend them.

Well thanks guys - now I'm paranoid! LOL.

No, really; indeed, I have heard lots of bad things about 1 and 1; I guess that somehow either I've been lucky or haven't needed much personal attention from them. They've suited my needs well.

I looked into them and was going to but they put way to many restrictions on their accounts. Im quite sure there mysql database sizes are really restricted which for someone who runs forums is useless!. I have heard some bad things about em too!!!.

They do advertise a lot in all the major PC magazines but they do seem to be a bit pushy. I have no experience dealing with them though.
