I have heard bad things about go daddys web hosting. Its not meant to be great. I also used yahoos and it was not good really slow load times when it was up and non existant customer service!.

I use asmallorange they are new medium size maby but with great customer care and good prices.

I would have to agree with vampire...I don't know if you can really get down to only one hosting company being the biggest....You could make a list of the like top 10 or 20 maybe.

the biggest company out there is MediaTemple they host all the major companies and businesses around the world.

View Just Some of There Clients At:
(mt) Media Temple - Our Clients

the only problem is that they care too much about these major business's and not the smaller people like us. I have hosted with them and was horrible. I now host with SenseHost.com Great company, new but the owner is very very friendly.

Triple Fiber Networks LLC hosts Google, so they're pretty massive. There's also Hostrocket which is pretty big too on their 3800 server network.

well you will get many mixed reviews on which company is the biggest, but the most that i hear is hostgator or godaddy but then again you will get more if you know what you are talking about.

bravenet is mostly freehosting which is really crappy and not worth paying...

Web Hosting Companies

webhosting.info is the worlds biggest online hosting statistics organization. If you look at their data all of the companies Go daddy owns combined dwarfs any other company. Check out their wikipedia too it claims they are the biggest and then check out the sources at the bottom to find their numbers.
godaddy is mostly for domains and not to big hosting, they offer great pricing to help in getting your domain along with what some call great hosting and others call not so great...

but dreamhost.com is massive in size and caters to a large number of designers and freelancers.

i think in the design and hosting community it is definitely one of the elite due to customer service, expandability and sheer volume and size.
Dreamhost.com is not heard everywhere so it can't really be heard as a great company, but i have been hearing they are taking peoples money when they want a refund.

I don't know about that. I would say that they are a fairly well know company. In 2006 hostgator hosted over 500,000 websites all at the planet's datacentre, and that is just one of their contracts. They are bigger than you may think.

Theplanet is big in the area of Colocation which is not the same as hosting company, they simple just provide you with the server space. i personally have a server over there which i use for mirrors for other hosting things for people to download 200GB of space used on it outa 1TB :D
