Just to add, I also think those CSS directories are a great way to find out and see some new stuff that is going on, my favourite is :
CSS Remix

I've always taken inspiration from the subject matter of the site I am being asked to design. Certain subjects would not befit certain colour schemes for instance-real estate would not work with a bright orange site with green writing. I think that this helps me narrow down my choices hugely.

Most of the times I start doodling or just create a wallpaper in photoshop and usually from the wallpaper, the style of a new website comes to mind. I do quite a bit of trial and error though.

OK, I'm giving away one of my secrets, albeit I know a lot others are doing it to. I copy, and integrate, the design of others. You know, take 1 element here and another element there and tweak everything until it suits my purpose.

Open Web Design - Download Free Web Design Templates has plenty of designs and templates to choose from. However, I have to say that I believe in giving credit where it is due.
In one way it doesn't mean cheating. It is observing others' work and trying to get the best of it and making it more better. It is one way of flattery.

well, truely i would like to say its because u are not a designer, or may be called that u have a knowledge but u dont have creativity. as i can say that every person are best on their fields. u might be best on SEO, CODINGS, etc etce......but u failed while u need to create something new. and to be honest i would like to suggest u that, when u cant imagine anything......get inspired by nature......and ofcourse u sould learn from other websites too. i hope u understood what i mean to say.
