Default Press Releases - Are they effective for Traffic & SEO??

My main client attended a business conference yesterday and has come back convinced that press releases are the way forward to increase his traffic and web presence.

Trouble is, I'm not sure I agree!

I've always believed that they are only worth while if you are involved in "cool" industries like movies, films or technology. His company is into dvd duplication, and I don’t have a clue where to start in writing something interesting on that!?

Am I wasting my time trying?

i agree with you. basically, a press release is only good for a few hits and main point is just another one way theme link to your site. that's about it.

Press releases are only good at getting traffic for a limited period of time. As to SEO benefits, so little that you won't see and effect at all.
