ust built a website and am building the seo. Working my way into directories right now and stuff. But I was wondering if external linking to my competitors web site when that website is not linking to me HELP my site or HURT it? I understand the fact of it helping the competitor site cause your giving him the link, but my site is better and I'm not afraid to source his site as another source to help my site.. WHAT DO I DO? NO SPAMMING. SEO SPAM IS SO ANNOYING! THANK YOU.

I don't know about linking to your competition, but Google does prefer it when your outgoing links are to quality sites or sites with a higher PR then yours. This makes your site look like it is providing quality content. Linking to Wikipedia articles or .edu sites is good for this.

find other website who is not direct competitor but some what contents are RELATED to your site... Dont give a d*mn idea that your competitors can help because they cant... Thats why we call them "competitors"
