Default anchor text -- too little/too much?

How important is anchor text? I have a number of site mao style search engine helper pages that I would like to work on to increase my PR.

Will adding the headline and abstract of the article in to the anchor text help my page rank, or risk it considering the length og text within the link?

Has anyone ever heard of anchor text in a link being too long for search engines to consider valid?

Default

Anchor text, or the text used when linking to other sites, is very important in search engine optimization. Search engines use anchor text to try to determine what a site is about, so it's important to have relevant words, especially your target keywords and/or keyphrase, as the anchor text of all incoming links to your site.
