Thats right, *nix are more higly used when you want to work on servers and large databse computers , because of there security , but the majority of non-geeky type will still prefer windows since it much easier for them to operate, but for all those geeks out theres , its gotta be *nix

As most have said, I use PHP because it's free and can be used on a linux server.

Beside that, most free scripts are in PHP, so if you don't want to do 100% of your programming, PHP is the best.

To run ASP programs one needs IIS installed on a Windows platform server, which is not free. PHP programs run on Linux, which is free. Even the connectivity of the database is expensive in the case of ASP as MS-SQL is a product of Microsoft that needs to be purchased. PHP generally uses MySQL, which is freely available.

Default PHP is better for faster development

I use PHP for website development. The older version of PHP are less secure. While move on to PHP 5.2.5 we can develop big projects with better security. As bhar123 told in PHP we can easily connect with databases.

I use PHP since it's free, simple and I don't want a Windows server. Linux is much safer for server purposes.
