Default Jumping to .NET, is it worth it on hosted shared webservers

Hello Everyone,

The question...

Classic ASP or .NET

Love the simplicity of ASP and already master it, I am not a programmer by profession, just a hobby, already know html, css, sql, c++, VB.NET (basic course). Just left web design company few months ago. Do not intend to build website for others, just myself and my own business. Already had a site since 2002, hundreds of static pages to convert and tentatively programmed an asp version mockup and had second thoughts regarding AJAX, URL rewrite and all the convenient 2.0 goodies..

Community aspect, content management and user generated content is what's missing from the current static website as well as a database or multiple databases.

The website is hosted on a shared Windows server with a dedicated IP, using CDOSYS for visitor feedback.

The issue...

Wondered if .NET was a pain to manage when one doesn't have control of the server can everything be controled with a CPanel, how about security issues. And is it true that with .NET 2.0 the code can be written in notepad and don't need to be compiled.

Any input and opinions are welcome,

Thanks a lot,
