PHP is a popular and widely used programming language used for website development. It is a server side scripting language for creating Web pages. PHP is very easy to understand & learn. It supports most common databases like Oracle, Sybase and MySQL. It also includes external libraries to generate PDF documents and parsing XML. PHP can be used to make all kinds of pages.. one you might be familiar with are bulletin boards, a site like this could be done in php, creating shopping cart systems, eccomerce pages, guest books, petitions, form to email scripts limited only by your imagination and understanding of the language. It is particulary useful for web front ends to databases as well. Scripts are necessary for the added functions to a static webpage.

Also it is extremely simple and have advanced features.PHP has excellent text processing features, from the POSIX Extended or Perl regular expressions to parsing XML documents so we can use it for XML documents also.
