Default Considering the Audience

When you start your design, do you take time to consider the audience?

I know many male webmasters that lean toward one uniform look where ladies tend to like a bit more variety in a site. Not so much that each page looks like a new site or has a new color scheme, but they tolerate things like fancy fonts much better than males.

Are these things you consider in your design? Is it easy for you to place yourself in the seat of your audience if you are a male designing for a female audience and vice versa?

Yes , i do tend to realise what kind of audience will be , but when u design you have to make some compromises too so that quality content can come in . so that's a tricky business

It is really really easy for me to design something looking aesthetically pleasing, but sometimes it just wont work for the client I am hired for, for example a vibrant and arty design wont work for a corporate business.
The design needs to be based excactly on what the site needs to achieve.
But I fell there should always be a splash of your design qualities in every piece of work!

I usually do what my client desires. If the client doesn't care, then I do what I think. I do consider my audiences a little, as to which colours to use which styles, etc. ;)

I definitely have more 'artistic' approaches that more often than not clash with a design. Takes me a while to reign in my ideas to fit the customers needs. This is definitely an area I need tons of work in.

Also, its the really good designers that do this with ease and grace.

you want to always look into who your audience is going to be. especially if you are advertising a product of some type. You want most of your traffic to be pinpointed towards what they are looking for so that way most of your traffic will count. And your traffic will not outweigh your sales.

Speaking of which ...how many of you are turned off by an elaborate flash intro that you have to get through in order to see a site? I know I am and the fashion designers seem to be the worst with this. A waste of time and money.

1 of the main sins of web designs is the flash intro. When flash was such a new thing everyone had them, but over time they have been phased out do to those reasons you specified. People want content fast now, and the loading time and then watching a movie is a waste of time. Some artistic sites still use them , or bands and performers, but definitely on the out.

One survey showed that if a site doesnot open in 4 sec people tend to close that site , i dont want to see slow loading site , thats why also flash have lost its charm
