Default Understanding Black hat & white hat SEO technique
If you want to increase you page ranking and visibility in different search engines like Google and Yahoo, you will need to optimize your website. Many SEO companies in order to improve the traffic follow different SEO techniques which are categorized under white hat SEO technique and black hat SEO technique. Some companies use ethical means to attract more traffic and also to improve the ranking of the website. This technique is known as white hat SEO technique. Whereas, some SEO companies use unethical means to boost the ranking of the website which is known as black hat SEO technique.

True! But you'll have higher chances that Google and other search engines penalize your or worse ban your site because of doing black hat SEO.

Just a quick reminder, using software to get backlinks is BLACK HAT and if Google catches on (they do a lot) your website will drop 100% from all of Googles Engines.
