hey all, what exactly is a rss feed? who see's it and what do you do with it?

RSS feed is basically a 'feed' of recent threads/posts. Its normally used on blogs and news sites, but it can be activated on some forums. People can subscribe to your feed which gives them updates on the latest things at your site.
