Who is your favorite writer?
Whether it be a columnist or a book author, what writer do you admire and why?

I've got a laundry list of authors I respect. One died two days ago, Kurt vonnegut. Others are Faulkner, Tolstoy, and several historians. The great thing about blogs is that there are now people who I often read who would otherwise be obscure to me.

I don't have a favorite author, I have a hand full of writers that I like. I guess I can't really can't pinpoint because, every writer has their own style and own way of doing things.

I'm with you on Poe. Capote is on my list as is CS Lewis. He and Tolkien were contemporaries, Tolkien being another I respect greatly. I do not care for James Conrad or Ernest Hemmingway. Moby Dick bored me to death. Salinger, OK. Not the greatest like everyone likes to triumph but certainly important.

Well, my top is definitely Terry Pratchett. That man is a genius, and no author living or dead can compete with him.
Other authors I like and respect are Tolkien, George R.R. Martin, and Michail Bulgakov.
Oh, and have to mention Neil Gaiman for Good Omens, which is my favorite book, although didn't read any Neil Gaiman book beside Good Omens.

My favorite would be John Grisham. He's style is more about suspense and involves some law in it. My personal favorites would be "The Pelican Brief" and "The Firm"

I really like the earlier Stephen King stories. I've also enjoyed some of the books and their sequels by Anne Rice.
I really like Ayn Rand novels, too.
