Overall, John Irving -- I consistently enjoy his books although none are my "favorite".

However, my #1 favorite book is by Kate Chopin and #2 favorite book by Tracy Chevalier.

My favorite overall writers are John Irving, Barbara Delinsy and John Grisham. I think they write consistently well and have enjoyed all of their work.

However, my favorite novels are The Awakening by Kate Chopin and Girl With a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier.

I've also enjoyed what I've read by Ken Follett, too.

I get the impression he works hard to get the historical references accurate in his novels.
