Three way linking was really popular a few years back and linkfarms where created for this very purpose. It seems though that especially Google doesn't give credit too much for it any more.
3 way links are good if you can get links from diffrent IP address , specially google loves links from class 3 IP address , whichh range in 202.x.x.x range .

I think 3 way linking is usually bad because most sites that need to use it are not worth linking at and do not have links which carry much link weight. Though doing a bit of it might help, as long as you have many other clean link sources and the 3 way stuff is a small percentage of your overall links.
