Default Google

I know there may be no answer to this but let me briefly explain:

We own several websites that rank very well on Google and Yahoo. In fact, for some of our most important keywords we come up on page one and two.

However, one of our websites with our Website Builder was ranking on the first page for the term "make a website". This is an important keyword for us. When I go to google.com and search this we now come up on page two #13. We were #10 for some time on the first page. If I look at other datacenters, we come up #9 on most of them.

My question is:

1) Do most users see the results of google.com or some other datacenter? I was never quite clear on how this works.

Thanks for your help,
Scott

hello scott,

first of all, welcome to the forum.

basically how things works with google is that around the country there are different datacenters. where you are located will be one data center and where i live is another datacenter. so each datacenter may have different search results.

Data centers do not always keep up with the updates as fast as Google do them. The SERPs change on almost a daily basis. If a site is fairly new, it may be high is the SERP for a while and all of a sudden they may drop for no apparent reason.

This is because other sites may have done some updating, better SEO or just your site may have settled down. Unfortunately, the best site does not always make the top, it is the site that does the best SEO and promotes the site the hardest.

Different data centers would yield different results. Fluctuations on your rankings are normal as Google seems to be updating SERP frequently.

The thing is that you should continue on with building targeted and quality backlinks to maintain and better your position. Best of luck ;)
