Default Link Exchange good or bad for Google?

I have been reading that link exchanges may not be good when it come to google rankings. I say, exchange links with good sites out there and not bad ones. what does everyone think?

Link exchange isnt bad. But it is bad if you exchange links with dead sites (sites what stop exist after some time), sites where webmaster delete your link after some time, sites what is under construction and have lot of errors or dead links.

The best link exchange is with related sites. Before you exchange links visit ofered site, see how is looking, what is content, PR, etc.

Always check your links from time to time.

i agree with sonam. you should make sure that your links are exchanged with a good quality site and person running the site. too many people will put your link up and then delete it and not tell you that they did. good luck to all.

Cool

Link Popularity in general is adding quality links to a website. Adding links would greatly help in two main things, first, it helps in the increase of traffic to your site and next it increases the Page Rank. If the Page Rank increases, automatically your site will get a good position in the search engines. The links can be added in two ways
Reciprocal Links Campaign
One Way Links Campaign
Link popularity is the representation of total number of web pages which link to an individual web page or a website. Link popularity can also be said as a measure of the quality and quantity of other web sites that are linking to a specific site on the World Wide Web.Link popularity is considered to be important because it is a key factor used by search engines which determines a website's position obtained during search results. In general a website having many inbound links will be placed at a higher rank than a similar site having fewer links. Some of the search engines would require at least one or more links linking to a website for indexing, otherwise the site is not indexed. The philosophy behind link popularity is that important and quality websites will attract many links to its site. Generally Content-poor sites will have the difficulty of obtaining any links. An inbound link coming from a major directory is of more weightage than an inbound link from a vague personal home page. So, link popularity depends on the quality of incoming links and not by the number of links in a website.

Exchanging links isnt bad and will help ONLY if they are relevant sites and will usually hurt you if you have an automotive site linked to a real estate site. And DO NOT use mass linking sites. Like TopLists those are now really hurting websites according to Matt Cutts from Google.

I don't think they are bad but one way links are worth a lot more to google that reciprocal. I used to link all of my blogs together to try to get good PR and it didn't work all that great they all had low PR.

I think link exchange is good as long as the page outbound where your site back link is located is not more than 50
