Firefox is much closer to RFC standards than IE. That is to say it parses webpages more correctly.

Firefox has a powerful extension system, IE doesn't.

Firefox can be themed, IE can't.

Firefox is released by Mozilla, IE is released by Microsoft

Firefox is available for Windows, Linux, BSD, OS X, and lots of other platforms. IE is only available for Windows.

Firefox has measurably better support for the file formats that are used to create webpages.

Firefox has a better security record than Internet Explorer.

Firefox has many customization addons. If you don't like the way FF does something, look for an addon. TabMixPlus, Adblock Plus, etc.

Hi all, so I have been using both IE8 and firefox for the last week and I am getting used to firefox. I have found that there are sites that do not like IE, and there are sites that do not like firefox. My system is probably getting bogged down with software and that might be causing some of the issues also. I will be building a new system in the near future, and I plan on starting slow with the programs that I install, trying firefox on that system for example to see what improvement I see. I am running a cable modem with a router and speed seems to go up and down. Some days the internet flies, while others it crawls.

Broni, love the firefox eating IE, Microsoft needs allot of healthy competition

What kills IE for me is it's inability to save complete web pages. Firefox offers the option of saves that retain all the graphics, tables and most important, working links. I can't imagine what the IE team thought they were doing when a link on a saved page only goes as far as the users hard drive.

Mind you, would appreciate Firefox including IE tab dismissal buttons, although I find I tend to use Cmd-W more often these days.
