meta tags are not worthless. you just have to know how to structure them properly. google doesn't take as much credit to meta tags as other search engines but you need to structure them correctly.

Yeah as things move on in the internet meta tags are becoming less relevant. At one point they were the be all and end all but now most search engines dont use them overly.

Don't forget that your meta tags are used for your page or site description and also in the link in the SERPS so good text can be a big factor when search engine users are choosing which site to click on.

Yes, in google (and all GOOD search engines) Keywords and Description meta tags at the very least are not even looked at and are completely ignored.

meta tags aren't worthless, there are still some meta search engines out there. Always remember to include these in your site!!

Google does give less importance to meta tags vs. yahoo. But don't leave it out. It is important to present your site to SE's with your meta for other reasons other than SERP.
