I don't have a lot of time to optimize my site myself. I've got someone offering me backlinks to help my pr ( for $). He says he takes the legwork out of the job for me. I am promised only "whitehat" techniques. Of course that would be great if it works, and is google legal, and won't get me banned.... Anyone got ideas or suggestions? Company is Captain Marketing. Oh yeah, I'm a newbie and if you can't tell that, please don't answer because I believe just about anything I'm told. Thanks

In Hyper-G and possibly other hypertext systems, a backlink is a link back to the page or one of the pages that currently link to the page you're using. Backlinks are already supported to some extent in the present Web system. Using JavaScript or a similar technique, you can add a button to your page that, when clicked, results in a request to the Alta Vista search engine to locate all the Web sites that link to your page (that is, to your home page backlinks).

Incidentally, you don't have to create a button or put this information on a page. You may just want to find out how many people on the Web have linked to your home page. To do this, go to Alta Vista and enter a search for:

link:WhatIs.com definitions, computer terms, tech glossaries and cheat sheets - We are the leading online tech dictionary and encyclopedia

Substitute your own home page address for "whatis.com". Alta Vista will tell you how many sites link to you and return the list so that you can find out which sites link to you. (Note that the Alta Vista list provides only those links to your site that they have currently indexed.)

You can go for that. It is not illegal. If your link provider use black hat SEO than may be your site is banned by Google. But first check their previous work and on the basis of that you can provide them work for your site.

You can find many company. If you do google for it. Just use your keyword for searching for the company. Even you can find them on this forum which help you to provide SEO work for your site. Or you can hire any freelancer from freelancing site. Just check out his past work and you can find the best one for your site.
