Is Google Page Rank Really Relevant? - Freelance Forum

I was just wondering that Google might have designed the page rank system based on the premise that higher the links a site has from other sites, higher would be the traffic to that site. However, I see so many sites that are having a very high page rank (since they might be having links from so many other sites) but do not have a very good volume of traffic. Also doesn't this system undermine the importance of good and relevant content on your site? Again I have seen so many sites which do not have a very good content and also might be having wrong grammar in their content, but still those are ranked by google. Please share your thoughts on this.

Some sites that have that also have fake PR too so that might be what you see as well.

Page rank lets the users know how relevant your site is to the domain i believe!

For example if your domain is today.whatever and your content is about a tv show or birds or something, it wont be high!

Also its how much the material changes on your site, if your material changed a lot on your site it will be higher as the google bot needs to search your site more for its "book keeping"

This is relevant as if you are looking to advertise on a site, it is obviously better to have a site which is relevant to yours and that the google bot is searching it more than another, and the page rank is a good indication.

Fake page ranks are easy to detect, there are many sites to verify it, also, i have noticed, and i would like to ask the question, how come the page rank can change so dramatically when everything is running the same as before?

Eg: I had one site i was working on and it got up to PR 5 then two weeks later, even though work was still being done on the site, new material etc, the page rank fell to just 1.. Anyone have any ideas how this could happen ?

Page Rank actually have no relation with the traffic that you get in your site. It is a measure of relevancy of the contents of your site to a certain topic. It is based on a formula that depends on the PR of other sites that people link to you. If you don't have any backlinks, you will get a PR of 0.15
