Default Use of Flash

Do u think people will use Flash , when Ajax becomes widespread, because with a misture of good design a ajax based site an do most things like flash and its too low on bandwisth too.

I am not familiar with Ajax but if it doesn't slow sites down for people who are still using dial up, it should push flash aside in popularity.

Yes , AJAX has become a boon for people who use Dial up , it helps to load pages as fast as possible without even loading full page

The misconception of using flash elements is that they are slow loading. This is no longer necessarily true. A good flash designer can optimize well enough to appease everyone.

15-20% of my users are on dial-up, as am I. In rural areas it is still often the only choice. In my experience flash is still a problem for many of them to the extent I would certainly not have it as an obligatory part of the design. A splash page without and opt put text link that comes up first will almost always be an immediate put off for me.

That said, I think flash will be the bigger player for some time to come. It just isn't something I like. I think a lot of users mistake low download people for being obviously outside of their demographic--meanwhile the keep using badly designed obligatory flash elements. Very irritating. Some very high tech people are stuck in backwater areas.

you cant really even view flash if you have dial up can you? I thought you had to have boradband or cable connection.
