Yup yup; I shall chime in with 'static'. And in addition, I would say that any site logo needs to be one that resolves well across different kinds of media. If you look at a logo and can't imagine it being an eye-catching and memorable image on a billboard, license plate, newspaper ad, office sign or brochure, then the design ought to be reconsidered.

Also, I find logos that use a minimum number of colors and/or fonts are the most effective, not only as sharp, memorable branding but also for cost-effectiveness. Ever try to price screenprinted Tshirts for more than 2 colors? How about embroidered caps? Embossed business cards? You get the picture.

If a site is more for fun than business and the owner just likes to play with graphics, though, then I say knock yasself out on the animation, colors, the works. Just, please, dear sweet Dweebus please, NO midi files!! :p
